This image was my first go at The Orion and Running Man Nebula 🙃

 

Image was captured on Thursday 18th February 2021.

Focal Length = 400mm

F Ratio = F/5

Light frames = 22 x 4min @ ISO500 (main detail), 30 x 10second @ ISO800 (core)

Dark frames = 17

Bias frames = 50

Flat frames = 50

 

Autoguiding and dithering using PHD2.

 

Capture software: EOS Utility 

 

***Equipment***

Telescope: Skywatcher Equinox 80ed

Mount: Celestron AVX

Camera: Canon M6 mark II (mirrorless, stock, not astromodified)

Guiding: ZWO290MM Mini, AstroEssentials 32mm guide scope

Reducer: Televue 0.8x reducer/flattener

Filter: AltairAstro CLS-CCD 2" filter

Very nice detail there and controlled processing. I've never yet imaged it. By the time I had clear skies it moved through the sucker hole in the trees.

I think I made the mistake of not giving this target enough time. I kinda overlooked it throughout November and December, and this cost me dearly as there really has been so few clear skies. I also really wanted to show what a stock mirrorless could achieve.

 

Thanks for the compliments on the processing. I do try to be as gentle as possible with it. People are often surprised when I tell them I use GIMP for all my images instead of photoshop.
