The weather forecast app gave me a green light for tonight so I put my toys outside... let’s see ..

I would like to take some pics of the m37 star cluster however I would be happy if I can manage to get any other target

M37 is quite low down, and the light pollution would be horrendous. A better target might be the Beehive cluster, M44. It is in the same general vicinity, but at a higher altitude.

Then I will ask Meade to find it for me . Considering the fence around my garden, houses , street light etc.

I will definitely take a chance on the M44.

Thank you so much

M44 is almost in a due West direction, slightly to the South.

I think I am getting insane but I definitely saw something not usual tonight after the satellite. Triangle shape and very fast spinning on itself.

I know no one will be believe me but definitely wasn’t a plane or satellite possible some weather balloon!

The M44 unfortunately is just behind my neighbour’s house, the M45 rise early in the morning when it’s already too bright . The M37 is definitely too low from my location.
Definitely I am not in the right place for star clusters.

let’s try again with something else.

go in bed now!

If your view E/SE is not restricted, you have quite a few good targets to go for. All of them are globular star clusters. M3, M5, M13, M92. M3 has the highest altitude in the early evening, around 10pm.

I will point my scope in that direction next time. At some point I will manage to see something 🙃

  • 2 weeks later...

I’m taking a few snaps of the nova Cas Nov 2021 again after my initial imaging back in March. I want to see what the difference is as it appears to have grown in size according to reports. I have the OSC on the scope at the moment so colour piccies this time rather than the mono pictures took last time.

I’m using a modified EKOS auto focusing routine tonight too and initial indications show it is pretty good.

The Nova is quite low in the sky at the moment being just above my neighbours roof but seeing is good and guiding is between 0.4 and 0.6 total RMS. It will start to rise in a while but the inevitable cloud will be coming at around 1AM.

I haven't posted in this thread for a while now as I have not done any imaging for a while.  I am not set up for small galaxies and in any case I can't do broadband from Home Bortle 8.

I did go for a few days to a Bortle 4 location last week with an Astro chum, but got no clear skies at all Boo Hoo!!!

So all I have done is put the mount back in my observatory in Bortle 8 and re-polar aligned it.

Just waiting for the narrowband targets to come back into view, the few that are, are behind the house currently unless I stay up until silly o'clock.

Then of course there is the weather!!!!!!

Big job to do is realign the DDM 85 after the telescope got knocked by the roof when it closed unexpectedly. It slipped, and yesterday the RA was horizontal instead of at 50 degrees. Got it up a bit but hoping my heating engineer will be able to lend a hand tomorrow, if he turns up.

It's a heavy old lump.

Hope there is no damage done Dave 🤞.
