Thanks Brian, I assume that even with the rail kit, it still means you have to use the threaded hole in the aluminium mount?

Yes you do, but no pressure is needed at all. It transforms PA, making adjustments very smooth.

Why do you think the thread stripped even with low loading? Is it just poor manufacturing?

Steel bolts into aluminium threads is a very poor design, that's why they stripped, plus I used to have an even heavier load on my mount, a 300mm Newtonian and 15kg of counterweights. The repair I did with the helicoil insert is rock solid with no play whatsoever.

It's working fine thanks. The PA routine is now very easy. Instead of using the terrible Skywatcher bolts, I have inserted stainless steel hex head bolts that take an 8mm allen key. It's a way better option, and provides finer adjustments of the latitude.
