Martin Heath
I am a new astro observer with a view to photography too. After many years moving from place to place I now have the opportunity to invest time and effort into a hobby that has piqued my curiosity for many years. I made a rather impulsive purchase of scope and mount. I am now making sense of my equipment and the viewing options open to me. I read with interest all I can on viewing and photo techniques and look forward to having a go and getting feedback from the large community of experience I see on this site. My set-up consists of, Skywatcher 150PDS Newton. Celestron AVX EQ mount. Various Oculars from Explore Scientific, Altair, Orion incl 2x Barlow from Explore Scientific. Celestron Starsense auto-align, Altair Astro GPCAM 224C(which ev will be used for guidance). Being in Sweden, at 57,7N the subject matter at the moment is the sun. Unfortunately missing the partial due to cloud cover. Very little darkness during the summer months poses some limitations and cold winter months reduce the amount of time exposed to temperatures below freezing and an above average amount of light pollution from Göteborg. All in all a perfect challenge to better my skills in gazing at the universe. I hope to be able to contribute something of interest to you and welcome a discussion on technique and content in the future. Oddly looking forward to Midsummer celebrations, when it doesn`t get dark! All the best from a Bright and Summery Sweden, Martin.

Marmot
Hi Martin Welcome aboard. I am an observer and only entered into this interest a few months ago. It’s a steep learning curve, but I have found the members of this forum to be friendly and helpful. There is a wealth of experience here in both observational and AP. Not so long ago there was a discussion that included information on suitable scopes to start AP and the one you have was mentioned, so even though you may think it was impulsive, it would seem to be very suitable for your requirements. I can’t help with advice on AP, but from an observer point of view, even though I am a novice myself, I will help in any way I can. enjoy the forum and I look forward to your input and questions etc. And also welcome to Damo127🙂

Carastro
Welcome to the Yard Martibn, you name doesn't sound very Swedish (Ex Pat?). You choice of Skywatcher 150PDS Newton, Celestron AVX EQ mount. Sounds ideal for Astrophotography (did you read up on it first as most people get it wrong without advice, I did too). Assuming your Mount will guide, you have the right equipment. Yes, living at your latitude is impossible during the summer months. What are you planning for an imaging camera? It might be a good idea to read up some more if you haven't already bought one. Here of course you will get differing opinions, but best to start a new thread for that. Carole
