MarkAR
Thanks John, just wondering if I'll get any imaging done this month. Definitely nothing doing for a week or so.
Carastro
This has not only been a dreadful year for imaging, but also a dreadful summer. Carole
TerryMcK
Well there will be nothing doing for me for a while as I have bought yet another scope. As we know the more money you spend the more cloud cover that develops. Maybe I should have just spent a quid on a cheap eBay scope.
Carastro
Quote Typical! I have bought another scope and it is forecast heavy rain for the next week. Sorry everybody. Just found this above on the July thread, think it was terry posted it up. So it's all your fault we are having all this awful weather. 😁 Carole Edited August 1, 2021 by Carastro
TerryMcK
Haha yes it was. I've been on holiday from work this week and it always rains when I have my hols. Back at work next week so it'll be sunny again, dry and cloud free all night.
AstronomyUkraine
I'll be taking RGB data of the Propeller nebula tonight, the SHO stars are horrible and need replacing. Then hopefully I will add another hour or so of Ha data to this 4 hours on the Fishhead.
Carastro
No clear skies forecast for at least another week. Carole
Padraic M
I've just been given a very clear night as a surprise, given a hopeless forecast from CO. Have started capturing Lum to add to last week's Iris RGB. Hopefully will get 4 hours in mostly astro darkness, but will need to keep an eye on it in case the forecast clouds arrive.
AstronomyUkraine
Already set up. Will be adding more data to the existing Ha data on the Fishhead. Should get another 4/4.5 hours if all goes well.
AstronomyUkraine
Tonight is completely different to last night. Last night the dew point was less than half a degree from the actual temperature, so was very humid, and guiding was terrible. Tonight the dew point is 8 degree below the actual temperature, guiding is great, seeing is still not perfect, but 100% better than last night. The jet stream is going to be 36 m/s tonight, so that could account for the less than perfect seeing. Last night my guiding was getting up to 1.2 RMS on occasion. Tonight a completely different story. No wonder this hobby can frustrate at times. 😃 Edited August 2, 2021 by AstronomyUkraine
TerryMcK
You have good guiding tonight Brian. I wish we in my area of the UK had decent nights as it has been good during the day but as soon as the sun started to set it clouded over 😞

It's so frustrating after having a clear day, then the clouds come in.

TerryMcK
I'm setup with the RedCat51 for first light. I decided against the dual rig tonight as I only have a narrow window of opportunity tonight before the clouds come. I just want to see what the field of view is like in comparison to my Stellarium simulation. Also looking for edge to edge pinpoint stars just in case I need to adjust the camera tilt mechanism. So just playing around with it for now not going for APODs 🌜 IC1318 is the target as there is fair bit of nebulosity in the area although I might take a snap of Andromeda too. Using the OSC camera tonight too as I haven't ordered the DSD focuser yet so would have to be running outside adjusting focus with the mono camera every filter change.
AstronomyUkraine
Set up waiting to align. Got 1 hour of Ha data on the Fishhead to capture, then it's on to OIII data, which dropped on perfect, no moon to worry about.

I reckon with that scope Terry, you would have no problem getting the whole N American nebula in the frame.
TerryMcK
Yes I hope so. The simulation seem to be good and have been fairly accurate in the past within Stellarium. Green has turned to amber for me though in the weather apps such is the fickle nature of the UK skies but still hoping I get a little imaging time later on.
TerryMcK
First sub is in and it has sharp stars corner to corner. Focusing the RedCat51 manually is very sensitive and needs a very light touch. I ordered the DSD focuser for the RedCat earlier today so should have it in place Thursday or Friday and go to auto focusing again. It’s surprising how reliant you become on automation. As I type the clouds have covered my target so I might wait for 30 mins or so before calling it a night. I got what I wanted.

TerryMcK
I didn't get much data last night and as it happens I was only able to integrate 36 minutes of RGB from my OSC using the RedCat51 due to cloud. I purely wanted to see what the FOV was like and see if there were any issues with coma on corner stars as had been reported on other forums. But happily none was seen and the RedCat is good to go. The DSD focuser should be with me tomorrow. In the meantime here is 36 mins (6 x 6minutes) processed showing good field of view and sharp from corner to corner. The target is IC1318 not that that matters. I didn't reduce any of the stars. The image is spoilt by the big one with lots of halo around it but I'm not too bothered. Not after any merits for this one. Guiding was very poor too due to wispy clouds.
