paul
Hi All, This is my first image of this season after a long break. It's the result of two nights of roughly 1hr total for LRGB, 2hrs Ha and 5hrs Oiii. I've been practicing with methods to combine the images... The first image uses the Pixinsight NBRGBombination script. This is over all balanced but underwhelming for the NB. The second is a composite of an LRGB image and HOO image produced in Pixinsight then combined in Paintshop Pro. This shows the Oiii more clearly but I find the red a bit intense. LRGB subs were 30sec @ gain 0, Ha and Oiii susb were 120sec @ gain 200. ASi1600mm pro and filter set, scope was the OO250 newt. Even at 30 seconds and 0 gain I still manage to clip some stars. I suspect I have some light leakage in my flats so I may re-take those or I may just crop it out 😉.

paulgrover68
Cool image - I like the second rendition - the red brings out the ripples
paul
Thanks Peter, Paul. It was my first of this type, understanding how the work flow affects the final look so dramatically is quite a challenge but its fun. I think there is more to get of this data yet so I will continue reading and experimenting.
AstronomyUkraine
Very nice images Paul. The second image certainly has a lot more nebulosity in the background. Not sure if you have bad flats, or maybe just a strong vignette. Try applying a dose of DBE set to division, followed by a second dose set to subraction. That usually takes care of problems like this.
MarkAR
Two lovely images, both have their merits.
paul
This is my final, final version honest 😄. This process combined stretched LRGB+ starmask with a stretched HOO using pixelmath and final colour correction. For me this is easier on the eye and visually more interesting and somewhere between the previous two. I need to move on now... This is the best, it is better colour balanced and shows the Oiii more clearly than the earlier "red" version. Well done. Sterrenland
Love this last version best... amazing detail of the nebulosity/gases around the edge. Have only tried the Crescent once before with my old DSLR... you've made me add it to my list of future targets with the new camera!

I couldn't leave it and I've done a new round of processing and improved the stars and ringing artifacts, its looking more subtle now. I am convinced I have some artifacts in my lights that aren't in any other images. It seems I have some stray light hitting the bottom corners. My flats look good but there is definitely clouding visible in my Ha and Oiii lights.
MarkAR
Last two versions are great, the Crescent is a tricky one to process and you can just keep going making new versions till your eyes bleed.
TerryMcK
I like the one you did on Saturday although the recent one looks good too. The crescent is one of my favourites and I never tire of seeing it. 1
