Popular Post andynowlen
A 9 panel mosaic of the Cocoon Nebula area. This image was begun during 3 nights in June 2021. Then the rest of the data was added during 3 nights in August 2021 from my driveway 'observatory.' Astropixel processor was used to do the stacks. After a variety of attempts, I finally had to stack the individual sessions of each scope, combine the June sessions images, combine the August sessions images, then combine those masters in the final scope master. Subsequent to that the Tak master and the Sharpstar master were combined. The final image was well over 1.5 gig file size and was 10188x10157 pixels. The crop removed stacking artifacts and the misaligned camera angles. The stacking process took a good amount of time over 4 days. This cropped image is 8216x4246 pixels. The image appeals to me because of the star colors and the impression that the nebula has carved its way through the stars and left a trail. That is probably not a scientific explanation but I guess imagination is a great thing! Sonyme
Do you thing the dark channels are related to the Cocoon or is it purely a coincidence? Gary
