paul
I never had much luck with M31 before but now I have learnt a bit more patience I'm starting to get results I like. This is the result of 3hrs and 50 minutes of 5min subs @ ISO800 using my resurrected Canon 550d, Optolong L-pro, Altair 70mm EDT-F on my HEQ5pro. I'm pretty happy with picking up the star bridge between M31 and M110, I noticed that disturbance even carries on past M110 if I over-stretch it. More integration time would smooth out the outer regions but I may leave it there to focus on M33 which I have never imaged before. (I really need to get a monitor calibrator - it looks a lot darker in this rendering than on my main screen) Its been a few months since I processed an RGB image here is how it went with one-too-many applications of DBE:🤢

Adding Ha data also is a great help to M31, bringing out the areas of nebulosity in the galaxy.

paul
Thanks both, I was pleased how it came out. Having the right combination of gear for the target makes a difference. Sadly I won't be getting any Ha highlights unless I go back to it with the ASI1600 and try a mosaic to give me a similar fov but that camera has been moved to my big scope. I'm getting confident enough to try running two sessions at once: M33 with the 70mm+DSLR and NGC7380 with the 250mm +ASI1600. Setting up fully automated sessions on each is only a few minutes so it is doable 🤞

Thanks Padraic, I was pleasantly surprised how it turned out. I'd written off the DLSR off as a dead thing but it did ok🙂
