Peter B
I thought I had better check the collimation of my Sky-Watcher 102T refractor brand new out of the box, So I covered a torch with kitchen foil and put two pin pricks in the foil, one slightly bigger than the other. Set the torch up at one end of the house and the telescope at the other. Attached an SvBony SV305 camera and connected it to SharpCap. The collimation looked good but I was a bit shocked to see the black line. I examined all the optics carefully and couldn’t see any trace of a hair or other obstruction which might cause the line. I don’t see the line when using the telescope and camera to observe a regular target so I’m puzzled as to what this black line might be. Any suggestions/advice would be most welcome. paul
You perhaps created a pinhole camera! It's possibly a projection of the LED for the torch which has a fine wire. Try putting a a thin bit of paper between light and foil?
