It was the technique I'm now using on SHO images by adding the denoised, stretched mono channels together with LRGB, extracting the stars then throwing away the resultant starless image.

Then removing the stars from each of the stretched mono images, combining those images into a starless colour image, again with LRGB playing around with the channels weights (to not get excessively green images) and then manipulating that image.

Once I am pleased with that image I processed the stars (removing any coloured halos) and combine them to the starless image.

Next do a star reduction using the AstroSwell script which emulates Adam Block's method and then call it done.
