Cumbrianwolf
Normally my exposures are no more than 30 seconds as the telescope is a Newtonian light bucket and very fast at around F/3.5. An issue that I came across last night was that when using N.I.N.A to take shots over 30 seconds, it requires the use of bulb mode rather than manual mode of which when I do activate it the software keeps responding with cannot access camera or issue retrieving the data, my thinking is the USB cable not being able to shift the data quick enough, would I be on the correct track or do I have other issues? Any ideas welcome, as I really need to be able to take more than 30 seconds at a time on some objects.
paul
If I recall right my 550d (same digic 4 processor) is set to manual mode and exposure set to bulb, that works for me.

I am looking at replacing the cable that feeds the camera to the laptop, as I know some USB cables can be so intermittent by other needs for a USB via other hobbies. If you are able to communicate with the camera to download a 30 sec image that says to me your cable is probably ok. Have you tried using the eos application? you can also try using APT in demo mode to see if longer shots work with that APT has good support for DSLRs.

I have not tried the above, but I am all ears currently, as it has me baffled.
paul
APT integrates DSLRs well and gives you good feedback. You can try it out for free (it won't save images for free). https://astrophotography.app/ I used it with my DSLR first before switching over to NINA full time. I switched to NINA just because the UI is cleaner for mono use IMO.
GazAstro
I'm pretty sure that the free version of APT will save images, it just doesn't have some of the flashy features as the paid version. I use APT and prefer it to Nina ( I know I'm in a minority but Nina just gets too complicated 😂)
