TerryMcK
1/4 through the year. Looks reasonable here for imaging tonight and great for some solar during the day.
DaveS
Yep, imaging. Just a short run tonight to get pickups of RGB for Hickson 44, before starting on the Luminance. Forecast is for it to go downhill after about 12, should finish around then.
paul
Tonight forecasted 4 hrs+ clear, I was hoping to get some Lum on NGC 4725 to see if it would improve the fainter parts. Packed up for the evening after heavy clouds rolled in. Tomorrow also promises to be clear but we will see!
DaveS
Got the RGB in OK, but after the flip when I was capturing the Luminance I now have huge trailing and I don't know why. I've been out tho the obsy to check the USB cable and it looks OK, no snagging and I've imaged past the meridian on this target before. Never had trailing like that without something else being seriously amiss.
Padraic M
@DaveS are you using NINA? A few of us have seen that issue - not sure what the reason is yet. Star trails after a flip. I've found that stopping the sequence, doing a manual platesolve, and starting again tends to sort it out.
DaveS
@Padraic M, no this is an ASA mount using their software. There's no guiding involved, tracking is controlled by a sky model and encoders. When I checked the log I could see the post-meridian model was very odd. I think there was a single plate out of 5 with totally spurious solve parameters. Sent the tracking corrections all over the place.
Bob-c
Forecast for me tonight saying clear for most part, so may have another play if i don't get to tired. Bob.
DaveS
Hopefully running tonight, 5 hours of Luminance on HCG 44. There will be a meridian flip to watch.
DaveS
Watched the meridian flip and the second model, no outlying plates this time.
Bob-c
I am in the same part of sky as you Dave on NGC3227 or ARP94, everything going fine at the moment.👍 Bob
DaveS
Managed to get the full 5 hours judging by the last sub on the obsy monitor when I finally surfaced around 5.30 (Really 4.30 UTC) to close up. Brr... Was chilly going out in just my dressing gown 🥶.
paul
Yes, I often wonder if the neighbours will call social services when they catch me wandering the garden in various getups in the wee-small hours.
Bob-c
I stopped around 4-30ish or just after , with last 20mins or so on c/2017 k2 panstarrs. It turned out a good session really. Bob.
DaveS
Managed to put together a first pass LRGB which I've posted in the Deep Sky Imaging forum.
Cumbrianwolf
Tonight looks like a good opportunity to get out and test the ZWO guide camera! I am after some suggestions that would suit my optics which is a fast f3.5 254 mm light bucket with cropped DSLR sensor, I can fit M42 into the frame for reference as some objects are just too small for me unless I use the X2 Barlow and that has not been attempted yet as I am still getting my head around this set up. M81+M82 will frame nicely.
Padraic M
NINA is plodding away outside, doing its thing. Hoping to add another 3.5 hours to the 3 hours I got last night on the Leo triplet, and another hour to the 2 I got last night on Markarian's chain. I've a narrow slot of sky North to South between the trees and house, and a good patch straight up so my target choices are reasonably limited. DaveS
Sort of playing. With the moon so bright, just doing a 2 hour recce run on HCG 68, a new one for me.
Bob-c
Had a couple of hours last night. on a bright target M13 but moon is still a pain. finished with a short run on 2017 K2 PANSTARRS around 4 o'clock.. I am not bothering tonight guy's... All the best for those who do.. Bob.
DaveS
This is the result of the 2 hour run, stacked with calibration and given a quick 'n' dirty stretch. Think it's a bit small for my FL. North is to the left in this case.

Some superior tracking on that image, I like it as there is something artistic from the star underneath them with diffraction spikes.
Padraic M
Spending the week in Bortle 2, and finally got a clear night - one of the best I've seen here. This a single 180s RGB sub on M101 (ASI533). Histogram is well to the left so I've just bumped it up to 5 mins. Hopefully the clouds will stay away - forecast clear until after 3am. Lost some time in setting up with network and collimation issues. Stars are still not great but that's a problem to sort out another time.

DaveS
Yay! Got a clear night so going for some RGB on HCG 68. Also looking around with the bins, just spotted M81 and 82 quite easily.
