First-light luck with the Sadr region

I was testing out my Samyang 135mm mount last night. After messing around with it and Ekos I managed to bag 56 mins of Ha and 30 mins or Oiii.

The results are surprisingly good for first light, the F2 lens grabs a lot of light. Even so, Oiii is lacking signal and the sky wasn't really dark enough for it so contrast is off.

There is a lot of tilt visible in the top right quadrant that makes stars not round. Given its an F2 mount I think the tilt is very small and not something I can easily fix with the ZWO -EOS adapter. To address that I'm ordering the Astro Essentials Samyang Lens to M48 Adapter from FLO which I will use with the Altair variable spacer to get the critical backfocus right. I've also ordered a longer dovetail to support the camera without relying on the lens-mount to do it all.

Just done some recalculating and a lot of reading on other forum threads. It looks like I just need the ZWO 16.5mm M42 - M48 adapter and about 1.5-1.6mm of spacers to get me to ideal focus. I need to order a new 16.5mm extender as my current one is cold welded to a 10mm extension for use on my 70mm and Newts.

In hindsight, I should have may bagged up sets of spacers for each scope rather than breaking them down to swap the camera. I now have lots of bits and can't remember exactly what went where😵

As I recall I set spacing right for the 70mm and that worked fine for the Newts as well. It will be interesting to see if I get it right for the 135mm that it holds good enough for the 70mm.

I did the same thing a while back. I remembered to take photographs of everything once I had worked out all the spacing properly. Once you get it right, take everything apart and lay them out on a sheet of paper, then write notes under each item regarding size and such.  That way you have a single photo on your phone that shows all the parts and order they go on.
