Galileo
Just heard about the (unlikely) possibility of 3 hour power cuts and was initially annoyed till I realised that it would also mean no light pollution, wouldn't that be amazing to see the milky way when it normally would be completely obliterated. Still, what are the chances of said power cuts happening on a clear moonless night?🤔
Cumbrianwolf
It would certainly open our eyes up to how much light pollution kills the view. As you said, I am not sure whether it will happen.
TerryMcK
The power cuts might happen during the day of course.
Galileo
true, I remember power cuts in my youth (70's) where we all gathered around a candle, they were deffo in the evenings.
TerryMcK
Yeah me too. Learnt how to play Scrabble by candlelight in the power cuts. There was no warning usually while watching The High Chaperral or Call My Bluff - suddenly everything off apart from the gas fire! Happy days.
Carastro
Gosh l remember that. Miners strikes caused it and brought the government down. Three day working week so companies only had power for 3 days a week. So everything non electric was done by everyone on the non electric days and on the electric days it was all hands on deck to try to keep everything ticking over. We had a gas oven so invited our neighbours round (who had an electric oven) for candle lit dinner.
