Resurrected an old love

Recommended Posts

Just joined this group this evening. I started over 40 years ago with a 6" reflector - I think it was called Dynascope, or something like that. Then I got married and started having kids, and sold it. About 30 years ago I bought a spanking new Brandon 94mm refractor and several Brandon eyepieces. I still have it and love it, but recently I saw Jupiter through a friend's 8" Celestron and knew it is time for something bigger. All six kids are grown and left home and cash is no longer so tight around here, so a few days ago I took delivery of a spanking new Celestron Nexstar 9.25 evolution. My main enjoyment is showing younger people neat things in the night sky like planets, open star clusters, some of the brighter galaxies, globular star clusters, and so forth. I love to be there when a person sees the rings of Saturn for the very first time. My first time seeing the rings of Saturn was about 50 years ago while taking a first year astronomy course in university and seeing Saturn for the first time through a 5" Unitron refractor. What an experience! Now I love giving that experience to others.
