Popular Post Hannahgrace
(Text from my Instagram) Abell 85 / CBT-1 / LBN576. A very, very faint supernova remnant in Cassiopeia. It’s around 10,000 years old, and almost 10,000 light years away. The oiii is almost non-existent in a 10 min exposure. A labour of love with over 70 hours of HOO data (Ha25/Oiii45) 22 nights(&mornings!)425 x 600s subs. Very impressed with the detail my trusty @sky_watcher_official evostar 80mm refractor has picked up. Absolute brilliant value for money. I only lost 1 x Ha frame and 4 x Oiii frames when I was pre-processing this, so I’m super happy! (Lovely, wonderful EQ6r-pro 🙏🏼) Better res on Astrobin; https://www.astrobin.com/e94bni/ Edited January 2 by Hannahgrace Image was not uploading
Carastro
A great result Hannah. I have never tried this target living where l do. 70 hours!?!? Never heard anyone do that much on one target before. But what a fantastic result. Carole Edited January 3 by Carastro
TerryMcK
Nice result. What flattener did you end up using on the scope?
Sonyme
Very Nice Hannah. Your image has an almost embryonic look about it. I notice there are some wisps of white, shell like nebulous material quite some distance from the centre of your image. Perhaps remnants of the early stages of the nova. Happy New Year by the way! Astrobdlbug
Just WOW !! What dedication to a single target - funnily enough I started looking at LBN576 as well at beginning of December and also experimented with 10min subs, but when I reviewed the 7 subs I captured and did a trial integration I realised this target needed a massive amount of time to do it justice , as your 70hrs have proven so well - so I gave up and concentrated on the Christmas Tree Cluster as a mosaic..... Your 70hrs and dedication have delivered an exceptionally deep image with a huge amount of detail, your processing is wonderful, my only feedback would be it does look almost 'starless', personally I also like to de-emphasise stars when there is so much detail in nebulosity, however for your image I would lift the stars fractionally so they contribute rather than fade into the background, but thats a really minor thing for such an amazing image, well done - and TBH, I really cant get over 70 hours ... MartinS
Wonderful image Hanna. I assume you don’t live in the U.K. I don’t think I’ve ever achieved more than 50 hours imaging in a month, let alone 70 on a single target. Well done.

Bryan Thank you very much! I started this at the beginning of November and finished collecting data on the 29th December so it took quite a while but I’m more than happy to image a single target for a while!! I can appreciate your comment about the stars, I did start off with them a bit brighter, but they just overtook the detail in the supernova remnant for me. I like them how I’ve left them. There are so so so many stars in this area 😂 before I removed them to work on them the nebula was almost invisible haha!!! It’s my longest image to date, everything else (bar a few) are around 30. thanks again Bryan🙂 Hannah

Greg M
Very nice! Before you know it, you'll be taking 15, 20, and 30 minute subs!

I did try a 15 min the other day and the Eq6r handled it perfectly! 🙂 I quite like 10 mins and I had to discard hardly any compared to all my projects with 5 min subs! So happy 🙂
Adam Y
Slightly on topic, I am curious to know - what is the thought process when deciding whether to take (say) 20 x 10-minute subs or 10 x 20-minute subs? Stunning image, Hannah!! Edited January 12 by Adam Y

Stunning image, Hannah!! Thank you! 10 min subs are half of 20 (of course) so if guiding did mess up I wouldn’t waste as much time! For me it is the perfect balance between getting a nice amount of signal, and the least risk of guiding catastrophes and wasted subs!
