What eyepiece should I get?

Space20

Recommended Posts

I have a 4 inch refractor and I am considering buying a higher power eyepiece than the 10 mm I currently have. What eyepiece would you recommend? I am considering buying a 5mm, but I am concerned that the planetary views would be too blurry at 132×. Should I get the Agena starguider 8mm or 5mm? Or something else

Knowing the model and focal length of the refractor will guide the recommendations.
Do you observe with glasses? That also influences eyepiece type.

If you don't have a decent 2x Barlow lens, I'd get that. A 10mm with a 2x Barlow will give you the equivalent magnification of a 5mm without a Barlow.

Depends on three things...

    1. what your 'scope is.

    2. what your mount is.

    3. what your budget is.

The supplied 10mm that is supplied with many 'scopes is not that good. If you are on a budget, then these have good reviews... https://www.firstlightoptics.com/bst-starguider-eyepieces.html these are a little cheaper... https://www.firstlightoptics.com/vixen-eyepieces/vixen-npl-eyepieces.html

These are a little dearer... https://www.firstlightoptics.com/tele-vue-eyepieces/tele-vue-delite-62-degree-eyepieces.html I have two of the predecessors... 6mm and 8mm Radian.
