Firesmoke Filtering

Recommended Posts

Until the past few years smoke from wild fires in our region was only a sporadic concern.  Starting five or six years ago the smoke from massive forest fires along the west coat of North America has drifted thousands of miles into our area for more prolonged periods of time making it impossible to stay outdoors for long without your lungs starting to hurt.  In these conditions it is impossible to look at the night sky both in terms of health and haze.  As I re-enter astronomy I was wondering if there are any eyepiece filters that would assist me in visual observing under less dramatic, although hazy conditions caused by wildfire smoke?

Here's a link to the portal that I use:  https://firesmoke.ca/

And the map itself: https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/

It is not very active right now, but it will become so in a month or two and is becoming much worse year afrer year.

Thank you.

Craig
