..embed a link  in a post such that if someone clicks on an image in the post it takes them to the full res image on astrobin. I have tried attaching a jpeg and using the "insert link" icon,  tried insetring both types of link (simple and "forum" provided by astrobin etc but it does not work out as i see on other peoples posts here.

Help!!!!

Paste the URL from Astrobin onto this page.

Carole

Hi Carole, yes I can do that but what I'm trying to do is get it so that the link shows as an image - like you did with your "wizard combined data" post.

If I copy the "forum" link and paste it in it comes out like this;

get.jpg?insecure

or the "simple" link like this

But neither of those is what I'm trying to achieve.

I have also tried the "insert link" button and putting in the link from Astrobin but still no joy.

So just inserting the url doesn't work, let me have a play: -

Hmm, that's not working either, I'll have a chat with Paul

Thanks John, I appreciate it. If I copy and paste the simple link in it works fine but I'm trying to get it so it will show a thumbnail which when clicked on takes you straight to the AB page. Like Carole Pope does.

To attach an image from Astrobin, I go to the image in Astrobin, and then click on it so I get to the larger version of it (otherwise you get the platesolving as well), then I right click on the image and copy the URL.

Then come onto here and click on the icon above that looks a bit like a paperclip insert/Edit link, and paste the URL in that.

Right problem solved, apparently Atrobin has some security that prevents it showing the image directly from a link, so what you have to do is click your image and then when the image is displayed, you then right click  (FireFox) and copy image location and it works perfectly, so either by just clicking the smaller info page image, like this, if you want it to display the plate solved image: -

Or if you click that image and repeat with the right click copy image locations, you then get this: -

I have tried it with MS Edge as well and you just copy the image location

Hope that helps

Apologies Carole, I've been on the phone for an 1hr 40 mins and was at the same time trying to communicate with Nick and Paul about this and didn't see your reply, so yes as you say if you past the link into the insert link option you can have your cake and eat it: -

Thank-you for solving it whilst I was messing around ?, much appreciated.

Still not quite right - there's extra text.  It would be nice if linking provided an actual image rather than a link but this is adequate.

Hi Gina

For me the trick  (but this was on astrobin so I dont know if it would work on drop box) was to right click on the image and then use the "Copy Image Location" option, all the other options led to something like you have above.

With the "Copy Image Location" on the clipboard I the pasted that into the "URL" field of the window opened by the "insert/edit link" icon above then making sure I also clicked in the "link text" field so it is populated automatically.

I do hope that helps because it is really nice to have the image visible to click on in the post.

That doesn't work with Dropbox.  Only I can see the image.  I use "Copy Image Location" for other image sources.

I have been having some problems posting links from Dropbox.  Let's see if that's fixed too...
