Adam Y
Again last night I managed to eke out a few hours of clear skies (though humidity was over 80% so that didn't really help) - took about 5 hours and kept about 3, and was able to get I think a pretty good representation of our new supernova. It looks a bit like a watercolor blotch, as do most of my larger stars for some reason, but I'm pleased to have been there at that moment in our cosmic timeline! One day I'll need to really get serious on checking out the collimation *sigh*. Moon was not helpful either. No filters, 70x 180-sec subs w darks/flats/biases. Processed in Siril, then the new open-source GraXpert for sharpening, then GIMP for the final touches. My last M101 was a much better image, with much better conditions, but this is a cool moment in time and now I feel better for not getting the comet the way I wanted to 😇
Adam Y
And, I have no idea if this will show up correctly or not - but here is a gif of before and after using the unprocessed M101 image from last month along with this one. Pretty cool!!
TerryMcK
It does show up really well. The supernova is like a flashing lighthouse.
