California Nebula - only Ha

I’ll be interested to see how much OIII you find in this one. I do wonder about these CMOS OSCs with a combination narrowband filter. They seem to offer a shortcut to narrowband colour imaging, tempting when clear skies are few and far between.

You’ve started this one now, but I just wondered if you could rotate your camera a bit and get it all in the same field?

The Sii and Oiii data will have to wait for another day.

Great image so far David.  Shame you didn't orientate it landscape you would have got more in.

I wouldn't bother with Oiii, several of us have found no data at all.

Thanks folks for your kind words.

My rig has such a wide field of view I normally never have to worry about orientation and once its out on the pier nothing ever gets moved or my flats library needs doing again ;-)

If it works out nicely I may attempt my first ever mosaic and get the two edges !

It was this image that inspired me to go for the SHO set of data - maybe I am barking up the wrong tree if there is no Oiii  ???? ( did get a single 600 sec sub on Oiii before the cloud rolled in and I must admit that there was nothing to see but stars and I thought (maybe wrongly) that it was cloud hiding the Oiii data ???  All suggestions gladly taken on board!!

Attacked the California Nebula and I got most of the Ha data last night but soon after midnight it clouded over. The Sii and Oiii data will have to wait for another day. For now its a monochrome image. This is stacked and calibrated and stretched

but no processing done to it. 12 x 600 sec subs.

That is looking good David.

Bob.
