paul
The council have just removed all the sodium lights and replaced then with fewer and focused LED lights. The image quality is bad due to so little light for my phone to work with. Certainly the light spill into the back garden has reduced a lot, I can only hope it translates in to less image pollution. I am a little bit miffed since I had literally just invested in new LP filters ?.The view 1 Jan 2021, across the gardens to our village garage, it was very foggy that night so things were a bit exaggerated. The glare was brighter than a full moon.I sent the owners this picture with a polite suggestion they might like to save some money. There can't be too many skydiving car thieves in Cambridgeshire. (I live in hope as they are good members of the village.)

We used to cycle out to the "Hoops" on a fairly regular basis during the Summer. I appreciate what you mean about becoming "local" in a Cambridgeshire village, after 15-16 years in Milton I finally got to nodding terms with the landlord in my local. ? Incisive_Solutions
I’m Cambridgeshire too - we get lovely big skies here don’t we (when street lights and clouds get out of the way!)
Gina
I'm in rural Devon with no lights nearby but a few towns some miles away that add some light pollution, Still, Bortle 4 lower end so pretty good.
DaveS
I'm in semi-rural Dorset with the nearest streetlights 4 miles away, or possibly more. Dark end of Bortle 4, very nearly Bortle 3.

My company's HQ is in Switzerland and my office is fenland, back in the day when they visited many couldn't take the flat horizon😀 Sadly I'm surrounded by mature sycamores and firs so don't get to enjoy that. I'm working on a more portable solution to get down the fields towards Lords Bridge Radio Observatory at the back of my house. Away from trees and screening more of Cambridge light. KevS
Have any of you Cambridge bods been out to Wicken Fen? The car park there was pretty dark.

Apart from comet chasing last year around Lords Bridge I've been pretty garden bound but I really would like to get some clear horizons and darkness. I must get my "portable" gear finished. I figure lockdown will ease one day and I can try it out - probably for 4wks over summer when there is no darkness😏 but that gives me plenty of time to iron out the wrinkles.
