AstronomyUkraine
I've done some crazy things in my life, but last night was one of the craziests. I needed set up the focuser on my new scope, get the step size etc, and last night was clear most of the night. The main problem I had, it was -20 outside, but once I was polar aligned, everything else was done from in the house. The temperature was a bit too much for the mount though, the grease in it is rated for -30, but it seemed overrated, the mount went very stiff, the grease must have solidified in it. The cables also went quite rigid too.I did get my focuser sorted out, and a few hours of Lum on M81, but in future I will wait until the temperature is a lot higher before venturing out again. The ironic part is, I won't be using the images I had taken, I will be getting my flattener delivered tomorrow, tonight was just a test run.

AstronomyUkraine
Posted by: @KevS Not bad for a test run Thanks. My flattener arrived from Germany today, so I get to do it all again when the sky clears.

Surprisingly it doesn't feel like -20. The air is very dry, around 25% humidity, and we rarely get any wind here. I have felt colder in England when it gets below freezing and the wind is blowing.Brian
