gpowers
HI, I need to plug at least one hole in my knowledge ... and a whole lot more eventually I have a general question on DARKS. If i have a DARK library taken with a particular setup, and due to Framing an Object I rotate the camera, ? - does that invalidate my DARK library and hence have to create another. I guess the same would go for FLATS also ... any wisdom appreciated gary

Dark frames capture random electronic thermal noise, so no need to take new ones after the camera is rotated, but they should be refreshed every 6 months or so. Flat frames ideally should be taken after every session, along with the accompanying dark flats, but unless you rotate the camera, they should be OK to use on several imaging sessions. Your calibrated lights will usually let you know if you need to take fresh flats.
TerryMcK
Absolutely what Brian says is spot on. I personally don’t take dark flats. Just regular flats and add darks that might be six months old. However I don’t take flats every session if I know that the optical train has not changed since I last used it. Carastro
Agree with above replies, also Darks should be at same temperature as the lights. I reuse mine every time as I have set point cooling. Carole
