MartinS
Thanks John, this is an excellent thread as it allows us to share while were imaging. 1
TerryMcK
Wow. Is it March already? I'm doing a mosaic on the Elephants Trunk and did 36 subs last night of Ha, SII and OIII. Tonight is ok for me here so carrying on with as much as I can get. The moon thankfully is low tonight and I will be shooting in the opposite direction. Just got to watch for the odd tree branch. Carastro
I have one website telling me no clear skies for a week, and another telling me it is clear tomorrow night. Will have to rely on Mark 1 eyeball tomorrow night. Carole
AstronomyUkraine
CO is showing 15% cloud tomorrow night, going down to 2% by midnight, so I could be in business. It also is showing rain for tomorrow night, looks like they are hedging their bets.

You must have a good view to the North, I can't even see it now, the house is blocking the view. The wizard is just about visible, but not by much. TerryMcK
Yes I have great views north, a bit south if it Is high enough to clear the house so not many of the galaxies in that direction, views to the west over the tree line, but sadly very little to the east. To see Orion for instance I have to temporarily move the scope into another part of the garden. There is also a big street light to the east and I have to take care aiming. South is out for me, unless it's above 50°, too many tall trees. North is fine over the house up to 30°, West and East are both good. No chance of me seeing Orion, or the Rosette nebula. The Jellyfish just skims the top of the trees, that's how tall they are.
TerryMcK
I got a fair deal of Elephants Trunk last night. There was one moment in the middle of the sulphur where it started to graze the top of a tree. I could see it in the guidescope but it didn't affect the main scope that much. When it did the meridian flip the guide scope was clear of the obstruction and the main scope carried on. I was using multistar guiding in PHD2 and it still coped really well with the twigs in the way! It looks like I have another 10 hours of data to add to my existing data to make up a mini mosaic. Alternatively I might just crop the bad bits out 😁

AstronomyUkraine
Just taking my first image. Capturing Ha in NGC 869.
TerryMcK
I'm doing the Northern Lagoon nebula tonight before the clouds come in. Have got 7 x 6 minute subs of Ha in at the moment. Reluctant to change cameras over to OSC for galaxies at the moment and just catching a few more nebulae.
AstronomyUkraine
Had one of those frustrating nights up to now. Beautiful dark sky, laced with white fluffy clouds, making imaging a nightmare. Luckily the cloud has cleared, so should get a clear run until dawn. AstronomyUkraine
Already set up. Hoping for a clear night, the satellite images look good.
TerryMcK
Cloudy here. Mind you I need to get some proper unbroken sleep without getting up at silly o'clock to check on the rig.
TerryMcK
Clear for a bit here. Changed scopes to the WO ZS73 with the OSC and IDAS D2 filter doing some short subs on M45. Also got the binocs out. Mars is right next to Pleiades but not in the FOV so it isn't over exposing the subs. Planned 30 sec, 45 sec, 60 sec and 2 mins . Already got 4 x 6minute ones that I will use for the dusty stuff after I've taken out the stars. It's cold under the stars! BRRRR..
TerryMcK
It's just clouded over. I have 53 subs so far - 30 x 60 secs, 19 x 30 secs and 4 x 6 mins. Come in for a warm and a dram of rum.
gabs
hi , I have no stargazin opportunities tonight from my location, very cloudy and bit of rain. shame as tomorrow morning at 6:49 there is a good conjuction of Mercury and Jupiter , hower the weather forecast shows no chance to see the event :(. i hope for/better skyes next week or weekend. AstronomyUkraine
I had no clear sky forecast for last night, but the weather gods were on my side for once. The skies cleared about 1 am, and I managed to sneak in a cheeky 3 hours. Tonight is forecast clear all night, so I will be going to bed when the blackbird starts singing again.
AstronomyUkraine
All set up and ready to roll. Hoping to add data to existing data for M101, need 1 hour of green to complete 4 hours each of RGB, then it's on to Lum and Ha.
Padraic M
Nothing doing here tonight, but I got two hours of scattered clouds last night to try sort out the mount. Zero degrees, adjusted end float and backlash so everything seems to work perfectly with the handset, but on EQMOD the PC is still disconnecting. Played with all combinations, and there's an apparent link between the disconnects and whether my new focuser (Sesto Senso 2) is connected or not. So, a new theory to follow up on, that it's a USB issue? It's currently plugged into the ASI1600 USB2.0 hub, so next step is to a) switch it off or b) direct connect to the USB3.0 Startech hub. I had focuser problems when connecting to the 1600 hub, I also connect the 1600 directly to my laptop. When I connected the 1600 through a usb hub I had problems with SGP recognising it. All I have connected to my 1600 now is my filter wheel.
