PeterBolt
I made a start on NGC 2903 last night and managed to grab a couple of hours once the wind had calmed down. It was also the first time out for the new low profile focuser and coma corrector - at last I have round stars! I'm hoping to have another go tonight 🤞 Edited March 17, 2021 by PeterBolt
MarkAR
Very nice, little bit more data will be a bonus.
PeterBolt
Thanks it's looking clear again tonight so I'm hoping to catch another couple of hours.
PeterBolt
I managed to capture another 3 hours of data last night so these images were made from 60x300s subs. I am very keen to learn so any help or advice on how to process, capture etc would be welcomed. Edited March 18, 2021 by PeterBolt
MarkAR
Background looks much cleaner with the extra data. One thing to watch out for though is clipping the black point. You can lose some of the finer detail in trying to make the background too dark.
PeterBolt
Ok thanks I will take another look at this 👍
PeterBolt
I think I have been having some issues with DSS. I noticed that 2 x Drizzle was ticked? and I was also having some issues with colour balance in post processing. I think these images look much better now? Can anyone point me in the direction of any reference material for DSS settings particularly for a modified DSLR? PeterBolt
I did some more processing last night - mainly playing about with DSS setting. I think I now have an image I am happy with....well it looks OK on my laptop but not so good on my phone 🤔 Edited March 19, 2021 by PeterBolt

Maybe it's my eyes, but your stars look triangular, suggesting pinched optics. Have you any thoughts on this?
PeterBolt
i have had the mirror out to clear - maybe i need to slacked off the clips a touch?

PeterBolt
I was using spiral dithering...with the aggressiveness set to 2 in BackyardEOS....would this be OK? I have reprocessed again selecting the best 90% in DSS which I think has improved the star shape - perhaps there were some subs where the guiding wasn't so good? I also stacked without any BIAS frames which seems to give better colours? Maybe I have an issue with my BIAS? If you still think think there are signs of pinched optics I will take out the mirror again and make a small adjustment. I will also double check that camera is square to the focuser. Thanks for your advice. Edited March 20, 2021 by PeterBolt

Thanks for your advice. I don't see any images posted below. ☹ Pinched optics is usually connected to the primary mirror in a Newtonian. Maybe just needs a slight adjustment to make sure the retaining clips are not overtight. Brian

Brian Sorry I meant above in the previous post🙈 (yesterday at 12.33) I reprocessed using best 90% which I think improved the star shape.
