Popular Post Astrobdlbug
I started this project mid- March when we had some evenings when stars were in evidence but the transparency was dreadful - I persevered and processed a couple of hours Ha and it was a foggy mess. So I though thats it, definately end of the nebula season and was about to pack everything away for summer but an email arrived from a very well known vendor saying that they would send me a replacement ASI1600MM-Pro as the one I purchased last year had developed a download issue (twice) while still in warranty - it duely arrived next day - great so I need a target to image - so back to the Jellyfish... I replaced my original ASI1600MM that was on the telescope with the pro version and took a set of calibration flats and darks. Now needed some clear skies and over the following 2 weeks we have had some evenings with 2-3hrs clear and a couple with longer clear spells although the Jellyfish gets very low around 11:30pm. I managed to capture over 15hrs of data but rejected a lot of subs as they had very little contrast as the Jellyfish drifted down into the low lying atmospheric fug and logistic warehousing LP in Northampton. I processed this mainly in APP and Pixinsight with a final tweak in PS-CC Its a Hubble SHO, using the Pi AIP script, then adjusted with curves transform but as this nebula has very strong Ha and Sii content its not quite my usual NB pallette as that makes the nebula look very 'flat' - I have also left in the Ha Green , so may not be a pallete that appeals to everyone... This is the end result with 12.3hrs integration Dates:March 29, 2021 , April 3, 2021 , April 6, 2021 Frames: Antlia Ha 3nm Pro 1.25": 47x300" (gain: 200.00) -20C bin 1x1 Antlia OIII 3nm Pro 1.25": 49x300" (gain: 200.00) -20C bin 1x1 Antlia SII 3nm Pro 1.25": 52x300" (gain: 200.00) -20C bin 1x1 Integration: 12.3 hours I had quite a bit of work to correct a huge amount of microlensing on the star Propus, immediately below the Jellyfish - not perfect but massive improvement from the raw integration. I really didn't know very much about this object until I started this project - turns out its the most studied supernova remnant , it lies about 5,000 light years distant, Look forward to people's views on the colour pallete I've used for this and thanks for reading through my background ramblings, Bryan Edited April 10, 2021 by Astrobdlbug Spelling

MarkAR
Excellent image, colours are superb. Probably the best Jellyfish I've seen.

Jkulin
Lovely Bryan and those Antila filters are really singing. I need to get some for another rig I am putting together and buying a second set of Chroma's would be too much, where did you get them from and what was supply and price like? First off thank you for the feedback on my image - I’ve actually made some improvement with additional better FWHM Ha subs but haven’t reposted that as yet On filter side of things I bought them from astronomy365, if I recall I ordered through website at weekend and got email from Zoltan on the Tuesday and they were delivered on Thursday Haven’t looked at the prices on his website recently but I paid £278 for Ha and Sii, the Oiii was £310 mid-February. That’s for 1.25” Pro 3nm mounted versions still a fair chunk of cash but about 50% less than the two premium brands I am not making any comparisons as I don’t think my relatively budget kit would be any basis to do so. I also can’t really compare with the Optolong 7/6.5nm set as I used the Optolong in my wide fields with samyang 135mm and my images with 3nm Antlia are all with AT106EDT with FF/FR so 518mm focal length Hope this info helps in your analysis and decision Bryan 1

This is a direct comparison between the Optolong and Antlia OIII filters John. I replaced my Optolong OIII with the Antlia 3nm OIII. The images are taken in the Sadr region, both 5 min exposures. The top image is the Optolong version. The bottom image is the Antlia version. As you can see, the differences are very apparent. Jkulin
Thanks Bryan and Brian, I had Optolong before the Chromas and they were terrible filters, halos galore and many a nights images ruined because of them, that's why I went the chroma route and have never regretted it at all, but not sure if I can justify buying another set for a CMOS Mono rig

Astrobdlbug
Getting back to the image.... I have updated the processing, used much more Pixinsight tools than PS, but the biggest change os that I have replaced nearly all of the orginal Ha with 5hrs that I aquired over the past 2-3 weeks - I paid much more attention to focus variations and th erapid temperature drops we have been having which pulled focus out quite quickly. I also pushed the Oiii channel much harder in both histogramStretch and also incresed weight in the SHO_AIP script. I think its an improvement - but happy for feedback ...and on a final note - thats it , Sh2-248 has well and truely gone west - and although I used my refractor for Galaxy imaging last year the effort/reward was fine as a lockdown project, but this year I am not going to image galaxies in broadband, so will return late summer with hopefully more narrowband delights 🙂 Bryan
MarkAR
Love it, especially the extra blue around the edges.
