Lovely Bryan and those Antila filters are really singing.

I need to get some for another rig I am putting together and buying a second set of Chroma's would be too much, where did you get them from and what was supply and price like?

First off thank you for the feedback on my image - I’ve actually made some improvement with additional better FWHM Ha subs but haven’t reposted that as yet

On filter side of things I bought them from astronomy365, if I recall I ordered through website at weekend and got email from Zoltan on the Tuesday and they were delivered on Thursday

Haven’t looked at the prices on his website recently but I paid £278 for Ha and Sii, the Oiii was £310 mid-February.

That’s for 1.25” Pro 3nm mounted versions

still a fair chunk of cash but about 50% less than the two premium brands

I am not making any comparisons as I don’t think my relatively budget kit would be any basis to do so.
I also can’t really compare with the Optolong 7/6.5nm set as I used the Optolong in my wide fields with samyang 135mm and my images with 3nm Antlia are all with AT106EDT with FF/FR so 518mm focal length

Hope this info helps in your analysis and decision

This is a direct comparison between the Optolong and Antlia OIII filters John. I replaced my Optolong OIII with the Antlia 3nm OIII. The images are taken in the Sadr region, both 5 min exposures. The top image is the Optolong version. The bottom image is the Antlia version. As you can see, the differences are very apparent.

Thanks Bryan and Brian, I had Optolong before the Chromas and they were terrible filters, halos galore and many a nights images ruined because of them, that's why I went the chroma route and have never regretted it at all, but not sure if I can justify buying another set for a CMOS Mono rig

Getting back to the image....
I have updated the processing, used much more Pixinsight tools than PS, but the biggest change os that I have replaced nearly all of the orginal Ha with 5hrs that I aquired over the past 2-3 weeks  - I paid much more attention to focus variations and th erapid temperature drops we have been having which pulled focus out quite quickly.

I also pushed the Oiii channel much harder in both histogramStretch and also incresed weight in the SHO_AIP script.

I think its an improvement - but happy for feedback

...and on a final note - thats it , Sh2-248 has well and truely gone west  - and although I used my refractor for Galaxy imaging last year the effort/reward was fine as a lockdown project, but this year I am not going to image galaxies in broadband, so will return late summer with hopefully more narrowband delights 🙂
