Hello from Texas, USA!

Hi everyone, glad to have found this forum!  I plan to start lurking and learning, in the eventual hope that one day I'll be able to contribute!  Right now I don't know what I don't know, but I'm working through that.

I am returning to the hobby after a couple of decades away - wow, how the technology has progressed!  After a fair amount of research I decided that the Celestron Nexstar 8SE CST was going to be able to tick enough of the boxes, without being "specialist" at any one thing.  I am already seeing the limitations of the Alt-Az mount vs the equatorial, but that is fine - it is working for what I need and it seems easy enough to add things as I need them.  I am at the stage of doing some shakedown viewings to expose areas of weakness or bits of gear that will make it more tolerable.

So far I have seen some amazing views of Jupiter and Saturn, and trying to learn the ins and outs of trying to keep things centered and tracking.  Its a marathon, for sure!

I hope to get into some basic astrophotography - enough to please myself and family/friends.  Lots of very talented and bright folks here, so I look forward to learning.  Thanks for having me!

Well put!

Welcome, I'm pretty new myself and I still am not sure that I know enough to even choose a telescope that would fit my needs well. At some point you just have to go with your gut, though.

I love epistemology and your statement is true for most people - but too few know it! 😄
