Is this a decent filter or should I put more money into a significantly better one? I very much enjoy this hobby and I'm not opposed to buying better things if I need to...

'Gosky' is a generic name.

On the UK Amazon site 'Gosky' suggest that it's a narrowband filter. Which I very much doubt for 35 quid. Ultra High Contrast filters are generally marketed as two types. The first type is a broadband filter which lets through a broader range of light. A good example of these is the Orion SkyGlow. David Knisely review. I find the Explore Scientific OIII and Orion SkyGlow can be used up to a 1.5mm exit pupil (exit pupil = eyepiece focal length/telescope focal ratio).

The second type of UHC or OIII filter are narrowband. The Orion UltraBlock is a narrowband filter.

These pass much narrower bands of light and so a larger exit pupil will be required. Ideally between 3 to 7mm.

With broadband and narrowband filters 'yer pays yer money and takes yer choice' as they say. Lumicons are pricey. Astronomik are good. The Baader/Celestron OIII is a good narrowband. The Orion SkyGlow and UltraBlock filters are good for the money.
